APPRENTICESHIP AWARD
Student who excels in their Co-op or OYAP placement and is pursuing an apprenticeship placement.
ARCHBISHOP MEAGHER AWARD
This award is named in honour of the former Pastor of St. Anthony’s Parish and Chaplain of the Knights of Columbus 9235, to be presented to a graduating student who is active in our school and their parish, modeling Christian leadership and is a positive influence.
BRAMPTON ARTS COUNCIL AWARD
This award is sponsored by the Arts Council of Brampton. It provides a bursary of $100.00 to a student in each high school recognizing a high level of arts achievement.
CANADIAN FEDERATION OF UNIVERSITY WOMEN - BRAMPTON SCHOLARSHIP
Each year one young woman is selected from each of the secondary schools in Brampton to receive this award. This award goes to a student who has demonstrated academic excellence and is planning to attend a Canadian university. She has participated fully in a variety of student activities. The Canadian Federation of University Women - Brampton is part of a nationwide organization and is also affiliated with the International Federation of University Women. The goals of the organization are to encourage advanced study andresearch by Canadian women, to cultivate excellence in education, to use this education to benefit the community, to advance human rights and to improve the status of all women.
CATHOLIC STUDENT OF THE YEAR AWARD
This is a very prestigious honour as we present this award to a student who exemplifies the philosophy of Catholic education both in and out of school. This is a provincial award given to one student in every Ontario Catholic high school. The Knights of Columbus provide the financial award to the winner. In-school activities to be considered are: yearbook, student council, school store, chaplaincy, mission drives, social action, community activities, volunteer work in hospitals, parishes, youth organizations, senior citizens, physically disabled, political or social associations.
CHRISTIAN DISCIPLESHIP AWARD
This award is sponsored by the d’Youville Parish Catholic Women’s League and is presented to a female student who will be graduating this year and has displayed strong Christian values.
DECA BUSINESS AWARD
DECA is a student-centered organization whose program of leadership and personal development is designed specifically for students enrolled in Business Studies. The mission of DECA is to enhance the co-curricular education of students with interests in the field of business studies. DECA supports and challenges students to develop personal skills and competencies for future business careers; builds self-esteem, while providing leadership opportunities. DECA is committed to the advocacy of business education and the development of business and education partnerships. Helen Keller once said, “Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved.”
EDWARD KING MEMORIAL AWARD
This award is given to the student in the graduation class of each Secondary School who has demonstrated academic excellence and leadership in the school program. The motto: “Take a risk, get involved, be committed” is symbolic of Ed King’s philosophy and of the recipient.
GOVERNOR GENERAL’S MEDAL AND THE ROTARY CLUB HIGHEST ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
This award is presented to a student who has simply been the highest and top academic achiever in grades 11 and 12.
HONOUR STOLES
Awarded to all graduates whose graduating average is 80% or above.
JACOR MARKEING AWARD FOR STUDENT EQUALITY
This award is presented to the student who best exemplifies student equality by taking measure to prevent bullying and promote inclusion within the student body.
LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR AWARD
This award is presented to the student who has demonstrated exemplary community contribution or outstanding achievement through volunteer activity.
ONTARIO SCHOLAR CERTIFICATES
Awarded to Graduates whose graduating average is 80% or above.
OSCAR ROMERO AWARD
That the members of the DPSU recognize a graduating student from each school who promotes social justice and community involvement by encouraging the student population to seek awareness of social justice issues and then work towards improving the human condition. The recipient will be determined on the basis of:
a) social justice and his/her community involvement,
b)challenging the status quo for the improvement of the human condition,
c)demonstrating the above convictions through action.
PRINCIPAL’S AWARD
This award is presented to a student who has acted as a positive student ambassador. This student must also have demonstrated the qualities of being responsible, respectful, hardworking and diligent.
R. J. MCCARTHY AWARD
McCarthy’s is our main uniform supplier and a financial supporter of our scholarship program. The recipient of this award is a student who is academically successful and carries a positive and respectful manner at all times especially as he/she represents d’Youville in the community.
ROTARY CLUB BURSARY
The criteria for this award is financial need, not eligible for any other monetary award, community service and volunteerism. Student must attend a post-secondary facility immediately after graduation and achieve academic excellence. In order to be eligible for this award, students must complete the Rotary Club Application and submit it to Ms. Andreacola in the Library by May 4, 2014.
SAL SPROVIERI MEMORIAL ACADEMIC BURSARY
Despite extenuating circumstances has triumphed and is pursuing post-secondary education. This award is sponsored by Brampton Councilor, Mr. John Sprovieri.
SALUTATORIAN AWARD
Nominated and selected by the graduating class to welcome the families, community guests, and teachers of the Graduates.
SCHOOL COUNCIL ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
The St. Marguerite d’Youville School Council Award is given to a student who is extraordinary through “quiet” or humble example.
This individual:
Through humble example demonstrates behaviour that has given light to the Gospel values and virtues of: Faith, Empathy, Conscience, Hope, Self-Control, Respect, Kindness, Love, Acceptance and Fairness.
Sets an example to peers through demonstrated humility, courage and integrity.
Exemplifies the Gospel values through both daily interactions with staff and students, through involvement in the classroom and school activities.
Demonstrates to a significant degree, the qualities of decency, honesty, respect and compassion, as a means to foster and improve school spirit and community.
Performs random acts of kindness through actions and words.
SPECIALIST HIGH SKILLS MAJOR AWARD
Awarded to the students who have fulfilled the ministry requirements of the Specialist High Skills Major Healthcare and/or Childcare program. A $50.00 bursary is provided to each award recipient who has demonstrated dedication to and work ethic within the program.
ST. MARGUERITE PARISH AWARD
Our parent parish is an integral partner in the Christian development of our young men and women. The recipient of this award is a student who strives to act within the parameters of a Catholic, Christian framework and is never hesitant to display this attitude in the school and community, especially when with peers.
STUDENT COUNCIL AWARD
The Student Council sponsors an award to a student who displays total support for our school activities and is a role model for our younger students.
STUDENT LEADERSHIP AWARD
This is a very prestigious honour as we present this award to a student who exemplifies the philosophy of Catholic education both in and out of the school. This is a Board award given to one student in every Catholic high school in Dufferin-Peel. Characteristics of recipient: strong family commitment, good interpersonal skills, involved in school affairs and activities, involved in community activities, persistent.
T. J. REILLY SCHOLARSHIP AWARD
This scholarship, established in recognition of a former Director of Education, Thomas J Reilly, is presented annually in every Secondary School to a graduating student who has demonstrated excellence in the study of a modern language.
