Principal's Message
“The specific purpose of Catholic Education is the formation of boys and girls who will be good citizens of the world, loving God and neighbour and enriching society…fulfilling their destiny to become saints”
Archbishop J. Michael Miller, CSB
Welcome to the St. Marguerite d’Youville Catholic School Community. Our school is part of the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board and one of many schools in the Brampton East, Caledon, Dufferin and Malton Family of schools. We work in close partnership with St. Marguerite d’Youville Parish, our Trustee Mr. Shawn Xaviour and our Supervisory Officer Mr. Les Story to offer a quality Catholic education.
Once again this year we are looking forward to all of the upcoming activities and experiences created by our Chaplaincy Team. Religious Education courses, liturgies, retreats, daily prayer, presentations and local and international social justice outreach initiatives will all align with this year’s theme of “Mercy”.
Primarily we aim to promote the wellbeing, sense of belonging, inclusion, connectedness and safety of all staff and students. We instill in our students the self-discipline, collaboration skills and work ethic they will need to succeed in life. Our staff is also dedicated to continuous improvement of pedagogy and assessment thereby increasing graduation rates and improving overall student literacy and mathematical literacy skills. This year we are focusing on refining our use of educational technology within our evolving teaching practices.
Education should endeavor to improve student literacy, numeracy and fluency in 21st century skills so that students will reach their full potential in the future. However, we also believe it is very important to balance this academic focus with opportunities to participate in an exhaustive list of sports and clubs. d’Youville is recognized as one of the top schools in Ontario in a number of sports and arts programs and once again in 2015 is recognized as a Gold Certified Eco-School.
Students learn in a variety of ways. Therefore, d’Youville offers a variety of unique programs. We offer programs that use non-traditional approaches to learning alongside our mainstream programs. St. Marguerite d’Youville has also entered into a partnership with Humber College to offer our students a Dual Credit Program. Senior students can choose to simultaneously complete high school diploma requirements and first year college credits in a classroom on Humber College campus.
We know that all of our students will succeed given the right opportunity within the right circumstance. Our staff will work towards ensuring both for our students.
Have a great year!
